A Valentine’s Day Tradition That Surprises the French
As February approaches and winter slowly begins to soften, Japan enters one of the most vibrant and indulgent seasons of the year. Streets, department stores and shop windows are filled with warm colours and refined displays, all announcing the arrival of Valentine’s Day.
In France, Valentine’s Day is traditionally celebrated by couples, often marked by a romantic dinner, flowers or jewellery—most commonly offered by men to women.
In Japan, however, Valentine’s Day has evolved into a unique cultural tradition, shaped by its own rules and symbolism, and often a source of surprise for foreign visitors.
